Emergency Hormonal Contraception

Emergency contraception, or the morning-after pill, is taken following unprotected sex to avoid pregnancy. It is available from the pharmacy without a prescription to women aged 16 and over, subject to suitability, following a consultation with one of our pharmacists in our private consultation room. An appointment is not required.

It is vital you attend as soon as possible following the unprotected event (missed pill or failure of another method) up to 5 days (120 hours). Remember emergency contraception does not provide any protection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Furthermore, we can advise on alternative forms of contraception available.

If you have a medical card, please bring your card number with you to avail of this service free of charge.
